At Odesa Technical College, the Subject Committee for Light Industry trains junior specialists in the following specialties:

• “Modelling and Design of Industrial Products”;
• “Manufacture of Leather Goods”;
• “Garment Production”.

In today's conditions of fierce competition and a market that demands a specialist's in-depth knowledge and a creative approach to work, students master the art of creating beautiful fashionable clothing, footwear and accessories, bringing their own ideas and fantasies to life.

For many years, the lecturers of the subject committee for specialised light industry disciplines have been training specialists for the qualifications “technician-technologist” and “technician-designer”.

Various forms and methods of teaching are used in classes:

• classical lectures and lectures using multimedia devices;
• seminars with elements of business games;
• practical and laboratory classes involving the solution of situational problems using the brainstorming method.

The learning process is aimed at developing students' independent thinking and their drive for creative work.

Students acquire practical skills in their chosen profession during practical classes in specialised laboratories, light industry production workshops and at leading Ukrainian enterprises.

Types of placement:

• training placement (to acquire professional skills in the main technological operations and a placement to obtain a blue-collar trade);
• technological placement;
• design placement;
• pre-graduation placement.

In order to improve their practical skills and increase their interest in their chosen profession, students, together with club supervisors, attend shows of collections by contemporary Ukrainian clothing and footwear designers, fine art exhibitions, and exhibitions and sales of products of Ukrainian garment and footwear enterprises, where they become acquainted with their product range.

To reveal their creative abilities and build self-confidence, students make their own collections of various items, which enables them to take part in various competitions and festivals.
