On 2 February 2026, a meeting of the regional methodological committee of geography lecturers of professional pre-higher education institutions of Odesa Region was held.
Raisa Spirzhenko, a lecturer of the Subject Committee for Social Sciences and Humanities, took part in the meeting.
The topic of her presentation was “Interdisciplinary Links: Using Knowledge of Geography in Teaching Other Courses”
At the present stage, the formation of a scientific picture of the world for each student of a professional pre-higher education institution is of particular importance. These issues are quite topical against the background of the introduction of competence-based education, which, in this context, creates prerequisites for developing key, interdisciplinary and subject competences through the use of appropriate teaching aids.
Approaches that make it possible to prepare students for future life and professional activity are quite important in this regard. When defining the axiological orientation of the teaching and educational process, one should take into account both present-day realities and the projected prospects for the development of society: the pace, nature and direction of transformational processes in all areas of the humanitarian sphere of life.
Relying on these factors, and taking into account the diversity of value orientations that may be applied in the learning process, it is necessary to define priority areas and values in geographical education.
Raisa Spirzhenko stressed that the step-by-step systematisation of knowledge should be carried out at certain levels: 1) fundamental scientific concepts and laws; 2) theories and principles; 3) methodological principles of geography and other sciences; 4) partial pictures of the world; 5) integration of individual pictures into a single scientific picture of the world.
