Career guidance and educational event for first-year students

On 20.05.2026, lecturers of the Computer Technologies and Software Engineering Subject Committee, Stohul V. M. and Kryvchenko Yu. V., held a career guidance and educational event for first-year students of specialty F2, group 1RP-12 (group tutor Kryvchenko Yu. V.): the CTF “Cyber Range F2: An Introduction to the World of Cybersecurity”.

How it went:

The first-year students tried themselves in the role of “ethical hackers” in a completely safe learning environment.

A training online shop was set up and launched, and the students had to attack it in order to identify weaknesses in its security system.

They examined three main vulnerabilities — the very ones through which attackers attack real web applications around the world every day:

- login form spoofing,

- extraction of data from someone else’s profile,

- replacement of the upload folder.

Each participant received marks in the results table for the tasks completed, The statistics were kept online and displayed on a large screen, and a leaderboard was compiled by time.

Lecturer Stohul V. M., who was the speaker at the event, explained what exactly the actions performed meant and which mistakes occur in real code when developing software.

The students of group 1RP-12 responded very positively to this format of event; the interactive leaderboard added drive and a sporting spirit, and the opportunity to try themselves in the role of real “hackers” aroused incredible enthusiasm.
