Online lecture “Connection with the Native Land: Crimean Tatar Art”

On 6 September 2024, on the ZOOM platform, students of OTPC ONTU in specialty 182 Light Industry Technologies joined the online lecture “Connection with the Native Land: Crimean Tatar Art”, devoted to the key stages in the development of the art of the indigenous people of Crimea.

The lecture was delivered by a lecturer of Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University, Head of the Department of Design, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, member of the Union of Designers of Ukraine and fashion designer Liliia DERMAN.

During a historical excursion across the territory of the Crimean Peninsula, the students were introduced to the trends in contemporary Crimean Tatar decorative and applied art, such as embroidery, ceramics, jewellery and fine art.

Using this example, the students saw how art unites generations and preserves national identity, helping not only to preserve traditions but also to adapt them to the modern context.

We sincerely thank the organisers of the programme, the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and the NGO Krymska rodyna. Qırım ailesi, and Ms Liliia DERMAN personally. The lecture was a valuable addition to the curriculum and demonstrated how knowledge of history and culture can contribute to the development of creative thinking.
