Today Ukraine celebrates an important holiday – Constitution Day of Ukraine.
Exactly 28 years ago this important legal document – the heart of our state – was adopted. Work on the new Constitution of independent Ukraine lasted 6 years. Between 1991 and 1996, commissions of the Verkhovna Rada and the President of Ukraine drew up several draft Constitutions, which were discussed and revised over a long period. On the night of 27 to 28 June 1996, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Constitution of Ukraine; 315 deputies voted for it – two thirds of the total.
The Constitution of Ukraine is a symbol of our unity, independence and aspiration to a better future. It ensures justice, law and order, and the development of democracy in our country. We congratulate everyone on this great state holiday!
