On 9 September 2024, the 255th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Petrovych Kotliarevskyi, an outstanding figure of Ukrainian culture and the first classic of new Ukrainian literature, is marked.
For the anniversary of the famous fellow countryman, under the guidance of lecturer Komar N. M., students of group 1 KH-11 prepared interesting facts about the writer’s life and creative path, drew a wall newspaper, read excerpts from “The Aeneid” and “Natalka Poltavka” with interest, and discussed and shared their impressions of the works they had read.
The first work in terms of date of writing and significance in I. P. Kotliarevskyi’s literary output is the poem “The Aeneid”. Its publication was an epoch-making event in the spiritual life of Ukrainians. In it the author affirmed the immortality of his people and elevated their distinctive history, culture and language.
Ivan Petrovych Kotliarevskyi was the first in our literature to take all the best from the bookish language and combine it with the riches of the vernacular.
Kotliarevskyi made the most significant contribution to the formation of the modern Ukrainian literary language.
Each of his works is unsurpassed in the literary heritage of Ukraine of the 18th century. “The Aeneid”, “Natalka Poltavka”, “The Muscovite Wizard” – all these gems of Ukrainian culture are known not only in the Motherland but also far beyond its borders.
